Old Freinds & New Friends

To walk in The 3Day is to be part of an amazing event. It is the opportunity to sweat, to get blisters, to be the tirest and the sorest you have ever been in your life. It is also the opportunity to, every step of the way, be profoundly moved by humanity.

In the 1930's, Jens Jensen and Harriet Knudson began a project to preserve Illinois plants and habitat. Their vision was both bold and grand - to take 60 acres of farmland and to restore the native landscape. It was the Depression and little money was available. Rather than scale back their plans, they enlisted hundreds of people to bring acorns and plant the garden. Although Jensen was nearing the end of his life and would never see the mature result of their work, he knew the garden would flourish and future generations would always be able to enjoy its beauty.

The Garden at The Lily Art Center in Goshen, Indiana. This garden located at The Art Center at Greene and Berkey had been a gravel parking lot. It is undergoing a transformation. Soil is forming where gravel use to flourish. Trees, shrubs and flowers are taking root. These pictures depict about one quarter of the green area. Currently The Center is working on purchasing park benches and bike racks.

The Clearing

"The suggestions nature offers are tremendous, and it is a great mistake to think that one mind can comprehend them all. One can love only a few things in life, and it is the things we love which take our whole interest and out of which we bring forthe the best we have." Jens Jensen

Pachamama Alliance

"The Pachamama Alliance is based on the recognition that those of us in the modern world share a deep connection with the people who call the rainforest their home-each of us having a critical stake in the health and well being of this vital element in our global life support system. We also recognize that indigenous people are the rainforests' natural custodians, and therefore, key strategies of our alliance focus on strengthening their culture and empowering their ability to stand for and represent their own interests." taken from www.pachamama.org
